15 May 2008

A dark cloud hung over The Triangle following the news that Robert Dunlop has lost his life in an accident at the North West 200.

It is a double tragedy for the Dunlop family, elder brother, Joey, losing his life in an accident while racing in Estonia.

Feel free to leave your tributes to Robert Dunlop by adding a message.

He was a sporting icon in Northern Ireland and like his brother, Joey will be sorely missed in the motorcycle racing world.

  • KING OF THE CAUSEWAY COST"

I only met & spoke with Robert once (in Skerries) but it left a lasting memory in my mind and shortly after I took to the short citcuits. Robert you were a gentleman & a hero, I hope your family find peace in time. And that both your sons race on to the success that you so modestly achieved. RIP Robert Dunlop ("KING OF THE COAST")

  • Sad for family

I am not a follower of motorsport really, but I just wanted to offer my condolences to Robert and Joey's family for whom this must be a very difficult time.

It is always sad to hear of sportsmen dying whilst competing, but doubly sad when tragedy strikes twice in the same family.
