RICHARDSON MALCOLM Loving thoughts of a dear Cousin and Godfather - Ian and Chris, Stuart and Olivia You will be sadly missed
Report this message By Mike Turner on 1 Jun 2008Malcolm and I worked together for over 25 years. How do you summarise all those shared experiences in a few words? Malc was the very essence of what a real Student Support person should be about. The well-being of students was at the centre of everything he did and he fought battles all his career to ensure that he could give them the best he could. We all learnt so much from him, becoming better people as a result.
In many ways we could be like chalk and cheese and I remember with great affection our many talks when we were determined to change the world. Like a big brother he tried to stop me making decisions which he thought were rash and ill-thought through. At the same time I would push him to take greater risks. He had a lovely way of telling me off, which usually started with "we need to talk".He had a wonderful sense of irony and could be very cutting and sardonic, which led to a lot of fun & laughter. He gave me lots of gentle abuse about Rovers. I treasure his unending interest in the lives of our two children, Clare & David, and am proud that he shared his great love of his family with me.
Malc had unfailing integrity based on kindness, compassion, and clear convictions. Whilst we didn't always agree I trusted him implicitly and valued his opinions, even when they were not what I wanted to hear. He talked a lot of good sense. His untimely passing has left adeep sadness in all of us. We talked together for hours about what he was going to do in his retirement in the company of his cherished family in the North East. His joy at having Angie to share this with was clear for all of us to see. For them all to be robbed of this next stage in his career (as he would often call it) is heartbreaking.
So Malc, my good friend, rest in peace. We all miss you but know that you have gone to a better place. We will meet again one day to share fun and laughter.
Love Mike, Kath, Clare & David.
